I'm in the process of creating the new Earth-Moon website here, which means that there are still some sections missing. These include parts of the biographical sketch, a gallery, a faq, and some special bibliogaphies which I'll update and revise asap. As soon as website migration is complete, all links to the old site will automatically take you to this new version.

Keith Sagar's (ed.) new book Poet and Critic. The Letters of Ted Hughes and Keith Sagar (The British Library, 2012) will be launched at the British Library on 30 April at 6.30 pm.
Here is some information from the book cover:

The correspondence between the English poet Ted Hughes and the literary critic Keith Sagar began in 1969 and lasted until Hughes' death in 1998. During that time Hughes wrote 144 letters to Sagar, which show a unique dialogue between a writer and a critic.
In the letters Hughes describes his creative process candidly and in great depth, offering exceptional insight into the poet at work. Their relationship, however, extended to many areas beyond literature, and the letters also cover such topics as Hughes' travels, hunting, religion, education and his relationship with Sylvia Plath. Never published before in their entirety, this collection provides a significant new perspective on Hughes' life and work.

'That Keith Sagar was engaged with Hughes in such a correspondence for nearly thirty years and in such detail, is a measure of Hughes’s trust and of how constructive and fortifying he found their exchange.'
John Moat, poet, novelist and founder of the Arvon Foundation.

Wind Farm threat at Blackshaw Head

Wind farm threat at Blackshaw Head: An application has been made to erect large 60ft wind turbines...

Sarah Chisholm wrote:
"An application has been made to erect large 60 foot wind turbines very near Ted Hughes's former home at Colden Clough in West Yorkshire. The proposed site is in the Colden Valley, on the slopes described by Hughes in some of his Elmet Poems. Hughes described the site as a 'Leafy conch of whispers/ On the shore of heaven.'

Glyn Hughes successfully helped to oppose the application. Glyn's recent illness and death means that this landscape has lost one of its most important defenders.

An onshore wind farm of this scale produces only 1/10,000th of a more costly offshore windfarm, yet despoils beautiful countryside for miles around, and is also noisy. It is a question of balance, but I think that choosing this particular location would be rash and mistaken. At the very least, the decision should not be taken without proper debate.

If you are interested in registering your opposition, or in calling for a planning committee meeting so that the issues can be debated before a decision is taken, an email to Calderdale M.B.C. expressing concern would suffice. At present I am not confident that the local planning authority is aware of the importance of the site to Hughes's poetry, unless it is pointed out once again."

The planning application details are as follows, and objections can be made online through the <link http://www.calderdale.gov.uk/environment/planning/comment/index.jsp?app=11%2F00465%2FFUL - external-link-new-window>Calderdale Council Planning webpage
.
