Timmy the Tug

Timmy the Tug is a picture book about a tug boat. Hughes wrote the poem in the 1950s for a book by his flatmate Jim Downer. The poem was re-discovered in 2009 by Carol Hughes. The discovery was reported on in the British press (see here).

Timmy the Tug is much in the vein of Hughes's early verse for children as in Meet my Folks and Nessie the Mannerless Monster. It is believed to have been completed in 1957.
